VIDEO: KGW’s Art Edwards reports on the rechargeable lanterns Blanchet House is collecting from individual donors and giving out to their guests.

We want to help our guests sleeping outdoors by providing hand-cranked rechargeable battery-powered lanterns. During the dark days of winter, many unhoused people do not have a stable light or heat source and sometimes use candles which can accidentally cause tent fires. Our staff selected an affordable, versatile, and easy to acquire lantern by Thorfire. The lantern also charges electronic devices like a mobile phone. The lantern can be purchased for $14 from our Amazon wish list.

Blanchet House offers the lanterns to our guests experiencing homelessness during our daily meal services at 310 NW Glisan St. in Old Town.
