4 Ways to Take Action

Blanchet House is bringing Hunger Action Month to Portland, a nationwide campaign designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States. Inflation and rising food costs are causing more people to go without hot meals, and our community relies on Blanchet House’s free cafe to fill the gaps. We’re mobilizing the community to take action and help end hunger for good.

About Hunger Action Month

Feeding America‘s annual nationwide campaign is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of hunger in the United States. It’s hard to believe, but for millions of people in America, a daily meal is difficult to acquire for so many reasons. By taking action, together we can relieve suffering and hunger one plate at a time.

Blanchet House has four ways for people to take action this month.

  1. Sign up to volunteer to serve meals in Blanchet House’s free cafe.
  2. Sponsor meals for someone experiencing homelessness or poverty.
  3. Sign up to make sack lunches that will be handed out for people to take.
  4. Make care kits containing snacks and the most requested hygiene items.

Hot Dog Buns Drive

Blanchet House put together a special hot dog dinner for homeless, hungry, and impoverished guests of its free cafe on Labor Day, Sept. 4 to kick off Hunger Action Month. Hundreds of hot dog buns were donated thanks to generous supporters as part of the Bring Blanchet House Buns drive.

383 hot dogs and 4 vegan dogs were served. Chef Antoine Golden made homemade potato salad too. Thank you to everyone who donated buns, and money, and volunteered! Our guests were very grateful. One young man was overcome with gratitude for the hospitality and hugged a volunteer.

Contact us at info@blanchethouse.org if you’re interested in participating in our next food event.
