Board Member

Dr. Michael Alberts

Michael joins the Board after many years of dedicated service as a volunteer in the Blanchet café. A retired general surgeon, he now practices street medicine, providing compassionate care to our unhoused neighbors through a local nonprofit.

Michael brings a wealth of leadership and governance experience from his tenure at Kaiser Permanente, where he served on the Medical Group’s Board of Directors, as Chief of General Surgery, and as Vice President of Human Resources and Leadership Development. Before entering medicine, he worked as a clinical psychologist—an experience that continues to inform his empathetic approach to care.

A Portlander since the age of one, Michael embodies the spirit of the city he calls home. He’s passionate about Portland’s vibrant food culture—both as an advocate for equitable access to healthy food and as an enthusiastic supporter of local farmers’ markets. He shares these passions with his wife and two sons, with whom he enjoys exploring all that Portland has to offer.
