Blanchet House announces that Executive Director Scott Kerman has stepped away from his role after six years of dedicated service.
Kerman has been a deeply respected and beloved leader whose commitment to people experiencing hunger, homelessness, and addiction has left a meaningful and lasting impact on Blanchet House and the wider Portland community. During his tenure, he strengthened core programs, deepened the organization’s commitment to dignity and hospitality, and helped build a strong, talented team that carries the mission forward every day. Blanchet House is grateful for his leadership and wishes him the very best in his next chapter.
Interim Leadership Named
To ensure continuity during this transition, Emily Coleman, Director of Programs, and Steve Cook, Director of Strategic Initiatives, will serve as co-interim executive directors. Both are experienced leaders who know the organization well and are deeply committed to the people Blanchet House serves.

Programs Continue Without Interruption
Blanchet House remains fully operational, serving three meals a day, six days a week, and steadfast in its mission to serve neighbors with dignity, hospitality, and care. The Board of Directors and leadership team are fully engaged to ensure a smooth transition, and all programs and services will continue without interruption.
Bethanie’s Room on Track for Early 2026
Plans to open Bethanie’s Room women’s shelter in early 2026 remain on track under the leadership of Shelly Bancroft, Director of Bethanie’s Room. Construction is progressing and overseen by Schommer and Sons, the team responsible for the recently completed dormitory at Blanchet Farm in Carlton, Oregon.
Gratitude for a Community That Makes This Possible
As always, Blanchet House’s life-saving work is made possible by the generosity and compassion of the community. We are deeply grateful for the continued support that allows this more than 73-year-old mission to endure, serving neighbors with care, consistency, and hope.
